Day 23: Paper straw ornament
For Day 23 Krafty Kath and tinsel + trim bring you two paper straw ornament crafts. So you can try both crafts with that bag of straws you buy. Or trim up some fancy drinks with the remainder straws. Be sure to check out Cathie’s paper straw ornament. Enjoy!
TIME TO COMPLETE
30 – 45 minutes
- Drill and .25″ drill bit
- .75″ Wooden bead
- Red paint
- Paint brush
- Red paper straws
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Small hole punch
- Thread or twine to hang
Re-drill the hole in the wooden bead with a .25″ drill bit. This will allow you to put one straw through the bead.
Paint the wooden bead red, or any other color you’d like. Let it dry completely.
Cut the paper straws in the following lengths:
1 – 6″
1 – 5.25″
4 – 2.5″
8 – 1.5″
Slip the 6″ long straw through the wooden bead. Place a little dot of hot glue in the center of the straw. Quickly slide the bead up over the glue and place in the center of the straw. Clean off any excess glue from the edges.
Cut the 5.25″ long straw in half. Place a dot of glue on one end of each and place on the wooden bead to make a cross.
Take the 4, 2.5″ pieces and place a little bit of glue on each end and place them on the wooden bead in the diagonals.
Now take the 8, 1.5″ pieces and cut a tiny “v” on the end of each one. This will help it sit in between each straw better. Glue each one in between the straws.
Punch a small hole in the long straw that runs through the bead and tie a little piece of colored twine to hang it on your tree!
