I finally have my new Craft Room set up, and it’s ready for some action. Just a few more months and it would have been a year since I moved in. YIKES. It’s about time I get back to doing what I love and sharing it with you!

At the Winter Alt Summit 2015 I met some lovely ladies from Minted.com. They were at the conference introducing their new line of decor fabrics and they hooked me up with some samples! If you haven’t checked out the fabric you have to. So many amazing designs in multiple color choices. It was really hard to choose, but my eyes went straight for the Modern Math fabric by Up Up Creative. It would go perfectly with my new modern decor.

MATERIALS

• Scissors
• Pinking sheers
• Fabric pins
• 2 pieces of fabric, 17″ x 17″ square
• 20″ zipper to match
• Thread to match
• Gold fabric paint
• Small stiff paintbrush(s)
• 16″ x 16″ pillow form (not pictured)
• Sewing machine & zipper foot (not pictured)
• Iron/Ironing board (not pictured)

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1:

Measure and cut 2 fabric pieces into 17″ x 17″ squares.

Step 2:

Iron a 1/4″ hem on the bottom edge each piece of fabric.

Step 3:

The next step is sewing the zipper to the ironed edges. Note…I do not claim to be an expert on sewing zippers. I think I have maybe sewn a handful in my life, and I got a little better once I got my Bernina. :) I will try my best to explain the steps but if all else fails, here are two other techniques from more seasoned experts.

With the zipper facing up, pin the ironed hem (right side up) along the left and right side of the zipper. Pin it in place. Sew along each side till the zipper is attached. Below is showing one side of the zipper. Do the same for each side of the zipper.

Step 4:

Once the zipper is sewn in place, unzip the zipper and place the right sides together. Pin in place.

Step 5:

Sew a 1/4″ hem around the remaining 3 sides.

Step 6:

Once it’s sewn use the pinking sheers to trim along the edges to prevent fraying.

Step 7:

Turn right sides out.

Step 8:

You can stop there if you’d like. But I added a little glam by painting gold fabric paint on one of the crosses on the front side of the pillowcase. Make sure you insert a barrier inbetween the fabric. I used a scrap piece of tag board.

Step 9:

Once it’s fully dry you can insert the pillow form into the pillowcase.
